"In challenging clinical scenarios, the opportunity to benefit from an adjunct, easy-to-use biological booster, may be an innovative strategy to improve results and increase the predictability of our treatments."

Introduction

Peri-implant defects pose a significant challenge in implant dentistry, often requiring a regenerative approach to restore bone and ensure long-term implant success. This case study details the treatment of a peri-implant defect at site 14 using a combination of Geistlich Bio-Oss® Collagen and REGENFAST®.

Case Overview

Patient Profile:

  • 68-year-old female
  • Non-smoker
  • Diagnosed with a peri-implant bone defect at site 14

Following a thorough assessment, a regenerative treatment plan was implemented to restore bone volume and improve implant stability.

Treatment Protocol: Step-by-Step

For a detailed step-by-step visual representation of the treatment process, please download the full case study PDF below.

1. Initial Assessment

A radiographic evaluation revealed peri-implant bone loss around the implant at site 14. The defect was confirmed upon flap opening, exposing the affected area.

2. Defect Cleaning and Preparation

The affected implant surface was meticulously decontaminated to remove bacterial biofilm and infected tissue, creating an optimal environment for regeneration.

3. Application of REGENFAST®

Once the site was prepared, REGENFAST® was applied directly into the defect. As a biological booster, REGENFAST® enhances wound healing and promotes the integration of grafting materials.

4. Bone Grafting with Geistlich Bio-Oss® Collagen

To ensure bone stability and volume maintenance, Geistlich Bio-Oss® Collagen was pre-soaked in REGENFAST® before being placed into the defect. This combination enhances bone regeneration and supports long-term implant success.

5. Soft Tissue Management

A free gingival graft was harvested from the palate and placed on the affected site and adjacent tooth (13) to optimize soft tissue healing and achieve a natural aesthetic outcome.

6. Healing and Follow-Up

Postoperative monitoring revealed excellent healing, with complete wound closure within one month. Temporary crowns were placed on multi-unit abutments, followed by permanent prosthetics after one year.

7. Radiographic Outcome After One Year

A follow-up radiograph taken one year post-surgery demonstrated successful bone regeneration, confirming the effectiveness of this approach.

Why Choose REGENFAST®?

In challenging cases like peri-implantitis, an adjunctive biological enhancer like REGENFAST® offers additional benefits by:

  • Accelerating healing processes
  • Enhancing soft and hard tissue integration
  • Increasing predictability in regenerative outcomes

Conclusion

This case highlights the power of regenerative techniques in addressing peri-implant defects. By utilizing REGENFAST® in combination with Geistlich Bio-Oss® Collagen, predictable and long-lasting outcomes were achieved.
