Getting Started with Geistlich myGuide®

What made you decide to start using Geistlich myGuide®?
In April 2024, I attended an EAO Focus training session on bone augmentation in Lisbon, where I met Dr. Mukta Sandu from Geistlich. She introduced me to Geistlich myGuide®, an innovative, interactive, and self-paced online training platform, one of the first of its kind in regenerative dentistry. What stood out to me was its thoughtful design: a curriculum developed under the leadership of Prof. Ronald Jung, bringing together the insights of 27 international experts.

How did you find the transition from your previous knowledge to this new program?
I found the transition into the program relatively seamless. One of the key advantages of the format is the flexibility it offers. I can work through the material at my own pace and revisit content as needed. This approach fits well with my clinical and administrative responsibilities and enables me to continue learning without losing valuable time or income.

Knowledge and Skills Gained

What new skills or knowledge did you gain from Geistlich myGuide®? 
The course provided a thorough and well-structured review of the fundamental scientific principles underpinning regenerative dentistry. It not only reinforced my existing knowledge but also introduced the latest evidence-based concepts and clinical approaches. 

Were any innovative methods or technologies introduced during the program? 
Yes, the program introduced several innovative concepts and tools that significantly enhanced my understanding of regenerative dentistry. These included updated protocols and classification systems, evidence-based decision trees, and a deeper scientific rationale behind biomaterials and treatment protocols. It was particularly valuable to see how these innovations could be directly applied in everyday practice.

How is new knowledge or research in regenerative dentistry integrated into the training program? 
The program is firmly grounded in the latest scientific evidence and clinical research. Each module is curated by leading international experts, who ensure that the content reflects current best practices and emerging trends in implantology. New concepts, such as evolving bone grafting techniques, biomaterial innovations, and updated classification systems, are introduced alongside supporting literature and clinical case examples. 

Program Highlights and Structure

What was your highlight? 
One of the key highlights was the hands-on clinical training using the provided Geistlich vLab® workshop kits, which allowed me to practice techniques in an applied and engaging way. The presence of an outstanding international panel of educators added real depth and credibility to the learning experience. Each module was well-structured, with concise take-home messages, relevant references, and quizzes to reinforce understanding. 

How does this training program differ from others? 
One of its most distinctive aspects is the inclusion of Geistlich vLab® hands-on workshop kits, which add a practical, tactile element to online learning, a feature rarely seen in similar courses. In addition, the integration of high-quality visuals, structured learning, and practical exercises sets this program apart in terms of both engagement and educational value.

Were there any modules that you found particularly helpful? 
To be candid, all the modules were exceptionally well-designed. Each offered valuable insights and clinical relevance and contributed meaningfully to my understanding of regenerative principles, treatment planning, and practical techniques.

Impact on Clinical Practice

How did this program change your career goals or approach to implantology? 
I am an avid learner, and this program has illuminated the scientific underpinnings of the materials and demonstrated practical strategies for achieving optimal clinical outcomes. It has undoubtedly bridged the knowledge gap in my existing understanding. 

Have you noticed any differences in your work or patient care since using Geistlich myGuide®?
Since engaging with Geistlich myGuide®, I have noticed a marked improvement in the precision and confidence with which I approach regenerative procedures. My improved knowledge of biomaterial selection and handling, particularly for hard and soft tissue augmentation, has resulted in more predictable and optimized clinical outcomes.

Do you plan to apply the knowledge and skills gained in the program in your future practice? 
Absolutely. The knowledge and skills gained through Geistlich myGuide® have already enhanced my clinical decision-making. I intend to apply these principles systematically across a range of cases. 

Looking Ahead

What other training programs or continuing education are you interested in to further develop your skills? 
I recently began the three-year Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) program in Oral Implantology at the University of Zurich. Traditionally, it was offered alongside prosthodontic specialty training and only in German. I’m proud to be the first UK dentist accepted on this course which is now taught in English. I’m also the first in the UK to start Geistlich myGuide® alongside this training. These reflect my ongoing commitment to advancing clinical expertise and global standards in implant dentistry.

Yes! I would highly recommend Geistlich myGuide® to dental professionals at all stages of their careers who are interested in advancing their understanding of regenerative dentistry.

I would encourage any colleague considering Geistlich myGuide® to approach it with the same commitment as they would a formal postgraduate course. The platform offers exceptional clinical value, and the more you engage with the content, the more you will benefit. Good luck!
