How Geistlich Created the “Nation’s Glue” with Konstruvit

The story of Konstruvit begins in the early 1950s, when Geistlich, after decades of producing natural glues, ventured into the world of synthetic adhesives. In 1957, the breakthrough came: a polymer that cures clear, doesn’t string, and requires no solvents, a milestone that was filed with the patent office in 1958.

However, Konstruvit achieved its national cult status in the 1970s. Together with the popular TV host Gerda Conzetti, the legendary “nation’s craft aunt,” Geistlich developed craft kits that sparked a veritable boom. In her show, the iconic white-and-red standing tube appeared time and again, making a lasting impression—a marketing effect that Hans Geistlich strategically exploited.

An integral part of everyday life in Switzerland

For years, Konstruvit was found in seven out of ten Swiss households and became an integral part of everyday Swiss culture. To this day, the brand remains a symbol of Swiss ingenuity, pioneering achievements, and the unique ability to turn a single product into a memory shared by an entire generation.
