Geistlich's first human pharmaceutical product on the market
The company expands its range to include feed lime and develops innovative products such as vitamin D concentrates and the animal breeding agent “Vitossan.” By 1944, the company had already succeeded in producing pure calcium phosphate in accordance with the strict requirements of the Swiss Pharmacopoeia. In 1945, Geistlich launched its first human pharmaceutical product, “Decalcit” – a mixture of calcium phosphate and vitamin D for the prevention of bone loss. With growing success, penicillin “Sulfocillin,” injectable calcium preparations, painkillers, and vitamin preparations followed.
Important values: Progress and innovation
From 1948 onwards, Geistlich intensified its research and development activities, patented vitamin production processes, and built production facilities, laboratories, and a library. The pharmaceutical division became internationally known under the “Gewo” brand and established itself as an important pillar of the company.
