Lipogems®

Autologous Micro-fragmented Adipose Tissue
The Lipogems® system is a sterile, single-use, class IIa medical device for the closed preparation and transfer of autologous adipose tissue in a single surgical step. The harvested tissue is minimally manipulated and used to repair, regenerate or replace damaged tissue structures.
In orthobiology, Lipogems® has proven particularly effective in the treatment of progressive and degenerative osteochondral diseases - such as osteoarthritis or traumatic joint injuries. It supports functional recovery in both younger and older patients with knee or hip joint pain as a result of overuse or trauma. It also enables athletes to return to competitive sport, especially if used early in the course of the disease.
Lipogems® is also used in the AMIC®+ procedure - a single-stage cartilage repair technique supplemented by biological augmentation. The combination of Lipogems® with the proven AMIC® procedure is known as the LIPO-AMIC® technique and has been described in detail by Debieux et al. (2024)1.
A recent five-year follow-up study on the LIPO-AMIC® technique², in which the Chondro-Gide® membrane was combined with autologous mesenchymal stem cells from adipose tissue, showed convincing clinical results in 18 patients with severe cartilage defects in the knee joint (ICRS grade III-IV). Clinical scores improved significantly (IKDC from 36.1 to 87.2; Lysholm from 44.4 to 93.5 points), and MRI findings demonstrated progressive cartilage regeneration and subchondral bone repair. These results indicate that LIPO-AMIC® is an effective and sustainable treatment option - with potentially better regeneration results compared to the standard AMIC® technique.
Key advantages of the Lipogems® system:
- No oxidation or mechanical damage to the cell population during processing
- High flowability and viscosity allow application through very fine needles
- Supplied as a complete disposable kit
- No centrifugation required
- No added enzymes
